The Boundary House
Tunbridge Wells, Kent.
An example of a contemporary eco house.
A house designed and project managed by Michael Winter incorporating many green and low energy principles.
Building orientation, room layout and façade treatment maximise solar gain and views to the south whilst minimising heat loss, lack of privacy and train noise to the north.
High insulation values are provided by high specification triple glazed windows and recycled newspaper using the 'breathing wall' concept.
Rainwater collection, solar heated hot water and green materials throughout and the omission of any central heating complete the eco design.
The much publicised house has won several awards including a Daily Telegraph/Individual Homes House builder of the Year 1996 and a prestigious RIBA Regional Award in Architecture. See the article in Living Etc.
Approximate area 3250 sqft/300m2. Approximate cost £235,000. Completed 1996.
